Central-Acting Erectile Dysfunction Medications
Discussion
Apomorphine is a short acting medication that binds to dopamine receptors in the brain to encourage erections. Strebel et al. (2004) found that only two patients out of 22 participants (9.1%) were able to have an erection sufficient for intercourse by using apomorphine 3mg SL. Nine patients (41%) mentioned side effects, and two more patients discontinued treatment after the first dosage because of intolerance.
Conclusion
There is level 4 evidence (from a pre-post study; Strebel et al. 2004) that found limited success using apomorphine SL to facilitate erections.
