Non-pharmacological Management of Fatigue in SCI
It is possible that people with disabilities are increasingly interested in non-pharmacologic approaches for fatigue management, such as exercise, education, or behavioral management techniques (Su et al. 2020). This preference is likely multifactorial, with contributing factors like undesirable side effects of medications, such as additional fatigue, difficulty sleeping, anxiety, headaches, limited efficacy, or inferiority compared with non-pharmacologic interventions (Asano & Finlayson 2014; Levine & Greenwald 2009).
Non-pharmacological interventions that have been studied in people with SCI will be divided in this chapter into exercise-based interventions, non-exercise-based interventions, self-management interventions, and the provision of different assistive devices.
