Non-Pharmacological Methods of Preventing UTIs

Non-pharmacological strategies are important for reducing urinary tract infection (UTI) risk in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Among these strategies, the selection of an appropriate bladder management method is a primary determinant of UTI risk in persons with SCI (Trautner & Darouiche 2002). The method chosen should minimize exposure of the urinary system to foreign bodies and reduce their potential for continued residence by draining the bladder effectively.
