Impact of Pain on Quality of Life Post SCI

At 1 year post injury, Mr. Rajah complains that “at the level of injury” pain, and the lower extremity and trunk paresthesias are making his life unbearable. He describes himself as more irritable and anxious, and never knows when the pain will increase in severity. He is often afraid to leave the house, since he doesn’t know when the pain will strike and make him cry or need to lay down to rest.
What is the impact of pain on the quality of life of SCI subjects?
1. Pain post SCI has a significant effect on the quality of life.
2. Post-SCI pain is common and often severe beginning relatively early post-injury.
