Community Reintegration

Mr. Rajah made good gains during therapy and was ready for discharge home after 2 months in the spinal cord injury rehabilitation unit. On the unit of this large rehabilitation hospital, patients attend a series of spinal cord injury information sessions twice weekly, and cover a total of 20 topics. Topics range from neurogenic bladder management to return to sport after SCI. This 10 week cycle of lectures is presented year round.
Due to anxiety, language barrier, and medical illness (pneumonia) suffered during the inpatient stay, Mr. Rajah did not complete the lecture series as an inpatient.
At one year post injury, Mr. Rajah presents for routine reassessment. He complains he is struggling to better understand his spinal cord injury and access community resources. He is not getting enough information about his SCI.
